Ibero-American Match Racing Championship - Day One

The Porto Alegre Match Cup - Ibero-American Championship Match Race started on Wednesday in Veleiros do Sul with the round robin stage (classification) of the women’s division. Throughout the day 28 match races were held between teams from Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and Peru. In the late afternoon the first two semifinalists were known - Brazilian skippers Juliana Senfft and Renata Decnop. Due to a tie at the end of the round robin between Tania Zimmermann (Peru), Caroline Bejar (Brazil) and Martina Maria Silva (Argentina), the other two slots will be determined Thursday morning. The teams of Gabriela Santanna (Argentina), Mariana Crousse (Argentina) and Eliane Fierro (Mexico) are out of the competition.

The team of Juliana Senfft, Fernanda Decnop, and Luciana Kopschitz was undefeated in the round robin. They won all seven of their races. In second with only one defeat (to Senfft) was the team of Renata Decnop, Gabriela Nicolino Sa, and Larissa Juk.

Juliana Senfft said it was a start and a hard-fought day they commit fewer errors. "We’ll leave the Ibero-American on Friday directly to Australia to Perth to compete in the World Championship and in pursuit of qualifying for the Olympics. The Ibero-American training is a luxury that we are having."

The sun came in the state capital and the south wind, despite many rounds, allowed a good start to the competition. This Thursday will be held the qualifying round matches, semifinals and the final part.

The Ibero-American Match Race Sailing is a realization of the Veleiros do Sul with support from the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), the Ibero-American Sailing (FIVELA), Confederation of Sailing and Motor (CBVM) and sponsored by Randon and Marcopolo through the Sports Incentive Act of the Federal Government.
