Womens Match Racers Into The End Game
London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition - Weymouth and Portland, Great Britain
The Womens Match Racing Quarter Finalists have been decided after the Round Robin threw out some great racing.
Australias Olivia Price / Nina Curtis / Lucinda Whitty ended the Round Robin undefeated with 11 victories. She sailed a great final race to overcome Rita Gonçalves / Mariana Lobato / Diana Neves (POR) sealing the perfect record.
Price will face Renee Groeneveld / Annemieke Bes / Marcelien Bos-De Koning (NED) in the first Quarter Final after the Dutch match racers squeezed ahead of Stephanie Hazard / Jenna Hansen / Susannah Pyatt (NZL) for the final spot.
Russias Ekaterina Skudina / Elena Oblova / Elena Syuzeva, Spains Tamara Echegoyen / Sofia Toro / Angela Pumariega and Americas Anna Tunnicliffe / Molly O’Bryan Vandemoer / Debbie Capozzi all finished on eight wins each but with Skudina defeating both she finishes second whilst Echegoyen finished third having overcome Tunnicliffe.
Skudina will meet World #2 Lucy Macgregor / Annie Lush / Kate Macgregor (GBR) in the second Quarter Final, Echegoyen will go up against Claire Leroy / Elodie Bertrand / Marie Riou (FRA) and Tunnicliffe has to face 2012 World Champions Silja Lehtinen / Silja Kanerva / Mikaela Wulff (FIN).
All the teams have two days off to recharge the batteries before the Quarter Finals on 7 August.
