Australia and Spain Advance To Womens Match Racing Final
London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition - Weymouth and Portland, Great Britain
Olivia Price / Nina Curtis / Lucinda Whitty (AUS) and Tamara Echegoyen / Sofia Toro / Angela Pumariega (ESP) advanced to the Womens Match Racing final today after two tight semi finals were played out.
With light winds playing havoc two flights were possible after the Womens 470 Medal Race on the Nothe Course before the breeze died. In a search for breeze anchors were lifted and moved to Portland Harbour.
The third flight began at 17:00 and with no racing able to take place after 17:30 it was do or die for both match ups as they both headed over with scores tied at 1-1.
Prices team and Silja Lehtinen / Silja Kanerva / Mikaela Wulff (FIN) went out first with the early advantage to the Finnish crew. But Price fought back and took the victory in a photo finish.
Echegoyens team overcame Ekaterina Skudina / Elena Oblova / Elena Syuzeva (RUS) in the final race and day was done.
It will be Australia versus Spain on the final day and Price will know what it takes to beat Echegoyen after defeating her in the round robin.
Meanwhile Finland and Russia will fight for bronze.
The Womens Match Racing final takes place tomorrow starting at 12:00 on the Nothe Course. Big winds are forecast which will make for an exciting finale of the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition.
