Stephanie Roble and her team (Maggie Shea, Jenn Chamberlin, Jessica Eastwell, Josefine Boel Rasmussen, and Joan Vestergård Hansen) won the final of the Stena Match Cup Sweden Womens Trophy against the Danish team skippered by Lotte Meldgaard Pedersen (with crew - Rachel Kiel, Tina Gramkov, Helle Jespersen, Annette Strøm and Gitte Bjerregaard). The duel went to a fifth and deciding match where Roble got the best start and took the advantage from the start.
There was sun and a light breeze at the Race Arena during this morning when the finals in Stena Match Cup Sweden Women’s Trophy were sailed. Meeldgard and Roble (USA) were even through out the match but it was a Danish advantage before the fourth race where Meldgaard took the lead. Roble caught up on the last downwind and pressed Meldgaard to a fifth and deciding duel.
The American got the best start and controlled the race from start to finish
"It feels awesome, we were really up against the ropes in the fourth race but it then we found the right rhythm in our sailing. We knew we had a good speed and maneuvers but the starts didn’t work as well as we wanted. But, in the last race we managed to sail on the right side of Lotte straight away", says Stephanie Roble.
The petit final was derby between two GKSS-teams. Caroline Sylvan and her New Sweden Match Racing Team took the lead in the first race, Anna Kjellberg evened the score and after a good start in the third and deciding match, Kjellberg took the lead on the first upwind and got an advantage that the team could expand to the finish line.
"We got good starts which is crucial when the breeze is weak. We’ve sailed good all week and the results have been better than we hoped for considering that our new team is new. There are some details we have to work on but I think we are well worth this third place, says Anna Kjellberg.
