World Sailing Match Race Rankings - 13 April 2016

There is no change at the top of the Open and Women’s World Sailing Match Racing Rankings with Ian Williams (GBR) and Camilla Ulrikkeholm Klinkby (DEN) holding firm.

Open Rankings

Even though he had a disastrous Congressional Cup, Great Britain’s Ian Williams (GBR) retains World #1 in the Open Rankings. Williams, one of the finest match racers of all time, couldn’t quite get it right in California as he finished at the back of the pack but his performances over the last 24 months are enough to leave him clear of Taylor Canfield (ISV).

In contrast, Canfield claimed the honours at the Congressional Cup to solidify his spot at World #2. With further World Match Racing Tour events coming thick and fast, Canfield will be hoping to replicate his Californian performance in a bid to regain World #1.

Nicolai Sehested (DEN) was runner up to Canfield at the Congressional Cup and as a result leaps up to World #5.

Malaysia’s Jeremy Koo is one of the months biggest movers, progressing up to World #41 from #94. Koo, a former World #28, claimed the honours at the Match Race Thailand Championships, a Grade 2 event, held out of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club.

The Malaysian overcame a strong field that included Mati Sepp who, as a result of his second place in Thailand, moves up two spots to a personal best of World #13.

The Ficker Cup was the only other Grade 2 event in the current period and the title was picked up by Johnie Berntsson (SWE) who remains at World #11.

Further down the rankings two French racers break into the top 160 match racers for the first time following their racing at the Championnat de France Match Racing Open 2016. Charles Capon (FRA) moves up to #151 from #219 and Quentin Le Guellec (FRA) at #152 from #212.

Women’s Rankings

Denmark’s Camilla Ulrikkeholm Klinkby sits atop of the Women’s Rankings comfortably on 10,046 points. From the eight events Ulrikkeholm Klinkby holds points from she has seven podium finishes, including three gold medals.

Anne-Claire Le Berre from France trails the Danish sailor at World #2 with Sweden’s Anna Kjellberg Ostling one place behind.

There were no women’s match racing events in the current window but based on the 24-month rolling system there are some minor changes throughout the rankings.
