It has been another busy year for the Womens International Match Racing Association (WIMRA). 2019 brought about more opportunities to expand the reach of match racing across the globe and enrich the lives of a new group of match racers while providing access to an ever expanding network of events and experiences. This year WIMRA continued to advance key programs toward our vision of creating a pathway for women to compete at the highest levels in the sport of sailing as a non-profit organization with a mission to expand and strengthen match racing globally and promote opportunities for competitive women’s sailing at every level.
Building Skills & Providing Opportunities
WIMRA continues to break ground in introducing new groups of international women sailors to match racing. This year we expanded women’s competition in Asia by running two clinics for sailors and race officials in Shanghai, China. With this training, China hosted their first ever women’s match racing event and the Chinese sailors competed in the Women’s International Match Racing Series (WIM Series) for the first time.
WIM Series
WIMRA leads the way for the top women sailors to compete at the highest-level by running the first and only professional sailing series for women. Since starting the WIM Series, over 90 teams from more than 25 countries have competed in this global event. WIMRA has provided professional sailing opportunities for over 500 women. This year we reached another new country by adding China for the WIM Series finale and next year New Zealand will host an event.
We look forward to the opportunity to build on these successes and strengthen the foundation of women’s match racing. Our vision is clear and with enthusiastic support and dedicated sailors, WIMRA will continue to champion women sailors. I hope you will consider making a donation to WIMRA as your support is key to our continued success.
Sincerely yours,
Liz Baylis
