X International Women Match Race Criterium - Day One
(Submitted by Jordi Carrasco, Real Club Náutico Calpe web site: www.rcnc.es)

FIRST DAY OF THE X INTERNATIONAL WOMEN MATCH RACE CRITERIUM

Linda Rahm catches the organisation and sailors unawares winning every single race she competed in.

Due to the fact that the wind conditions didn’t allow starting the competition on time the crews enjoyed, during the whole morning, a sunny day and the comfort that R.C.N.C´ s facilities offer. At 1.30 p.m. the wind started blowing until it got to 8 knots and invaded Calpe´ s bay allowing the Tom 28 boats to complete all the races programmed for the first day.

In the competition’s first stage 17 races will be done, and in each race 4 matches will take place. Every match consists in a confrontation between two crews in such a way that all the teams have, at the end, competed between them. Today, 9 of these 17 races were completed. The Swedish Linda Rahm, ninth in World Ranking, surprised everybody winning every race she competed in. Very close to her the French Claire Leroy, first in Ranking and the Danish Lotte Meldgaard. One of the favourites for the title, the Australian Katie Spithill had not the luck with her because she wasn’t able to win many races. She will have to make a huge effort so as to be able to fight for the trophy and compete in the X International Women Match Race Criterium.
