The Women’s International Match Racing Association (WIMRA) is honored to announce the appointment of Liz Baylis (USA) as the interim Executive Director of the Association. Ms. Baylis is 2002 Women’s Match Racing World Champion, 2002 Rolex U.S. Yachtswoman of the Year, active on the international match racing circuit, and is currently ranked 16th on the ISAF Women’s Match Racing Ranking.

“I am very excited to be selected to help WIMRA and women’s match racing reach new heights,” Baylis said. “Over the past few years interest in women’s match racing has exploded worldwide and over the next few years we hope that even more women will be given the opportunity to take part in and enjoy this exciting discipline of sailboat racing.”

WIMRA was formed in 1996 to promote women’s international match-race sailing and advocate for the inclusion of a Women’s Match-Racing Event in the Olympic Games. These goals are still forefront in its focus. Great strides towards achieving these objectives are being made. Over the past six months, the association has increased its web presence, recruited new members, provided organizational assistance to regatta organizers, and rallied members to contact their ISAF representatives to voice support of women’s match racing.

Over the next few month WIMRA, in conjunction with North U., will be planning, organizing, and running match racing clinics throughout the world to bring match racing to a growing group of sailors.

WIMRA is pleased to announce that it will be receiving financial support from the Belvedere Cove Foundation in order to put maximum effort into the achievement of the stated goals of the Association.

The Belvedere Cove Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization established for the purpose of receiving contributions to provide financial assistance to worthy sailors so that they can learn to sail, teach sailing and participate in regattas and programs that will afford them the opportunity to rise to the very top of the sport of sailing. http://www.belvederecove.org/

North U. runs a full range of on-the-water programs geared towards accelerating the education of sailors. http://www.northu.com/
