The Finnish Matchrace Championships were sailed in Helsinki with brand new J-80 boats. On the first day of racing the winds were quite light and shifts were challenging. Olympic sailor Silja Lehtinen had the best results after the first day, with nothing but wins.
Due to the light winds the last flights to complete the full round robin were sailed on Sunday with good breeze now helping the organizers. Silja took the round robin and the newcomer Chita Wahlroos took others by surprise and finished second after the round robin. Last year’s silver medalist Mikaela Fors finished third while Susanna Kukkonen managed to win over Martina Karlemo and thus secure a spot in the semi-finals.
