Pieve di Ledro...Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009...Following yesterday’s opening ceremony, the TRENTINO WOMEN MATCH RACE 2009 (an ISAF Grade 1 event) began today. Lake Ledro’s beautiful scenery; stable, regular wind. J22 boats specifically provided for this competition thanks to the collaborative organizational effort between Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro and Lake Garda’s Fraglia Vela Riva. 8 Fly match sets successfully completed today, constituting a total of 32 races. 14 teams participating in this highly specialized, challenging event: representing France, Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Croatia, Finland and Brazil. At day’s end; just after 6 pm, the clear victor is Julie Bossard’s team (FRA), winner of all six races they sailed today. Second position in those temporary overall scores and rankings presents a more complex situation: shared by two teams. 2008 Champions Klartje Zuiderbaan (NED) and Lake Garda’s Lorenza Mariani (Vela Club Campione) are currently tied for that second spot. Anita Di Iasio (A.V. Lago di Ledro), competitor in this matchrace-style sailing specialty since 2007, today holds one point in the temporary overall scores. Today, some of the crews sailed six races; others three.
