Haddad e Mota são bicampeões Sul-Americanos de Match Race

As equipes cariocas comandadas por Henrique Haddad e Juliana Mota foram as vencedoras do Campeonato Sul-Americano de Match Race que encerrou nesta segunda-feira no Veleiros do Sul, em Porto Alegre. Haddad foi o campeão da divisão Open ao vencer o gaúcho Nelson Ilha, da equipe Diferencial, por 2 a 0 na final da série de melhor de três.

A equipe Giga Race, formada por Henrique e Felipe Haddad, Pedro Caldas e Mário Trindade, saiu de Porto Alegre sem ter perdido nenhum dos 16 matches que disputou nesta competição e Haddad ainda levou o título de bicampeão sul-americano. Como ele mesmo diz os últimos resultados deram-lhe "maior confiança", depois de um período ruim.

“No início de novembro fomos vices no Mumbai International Match Race, na Índia. Disputamos 37 matches em 15 dias e ganhamos 30. Agora foram mais 16; isso nos dá mais tranqüilidade. Meu irmão entrou para a equipe e estamos numa fase de renovação com muitos projetos. Já o Sul-Americano foi excelente para todos os competidores.”

A tripulação de Haddad faz parte do quadro da marinha brasileira e o objetivo principal deles para 2011 são os Jogos Mundiais Militares, em julho, no Rio de Janeiro.

Como o Sul-Americano não teve a presença dos nossos vizinhos, as oito equipes brasileiras correram todas nas fases de round robin na divisão Open. Por isso a disputa pela terceira colocação na Open foi entre mulheres. Juliana Senfft (RJ) venceu a Renata Decnop (RJ) por 2 a 1.

O título da divisão feminina ficou com Juliana Mota que derrotou Juliana Senfft (RJ) por 2 a 0 na serie de três. Na segunda regata da final Senfft saiu com vantagem, mas perdeu o match. No final do primeiro popa o vento rondou e ficou muito fraco, praticamente parando os barcos. Mota conseguiu se sair melhor ao pegar por primeira a rajada que entrava e abriu uma grande diferença de sua adversária, numa surpreendente virada. Senfft protestou alegando que seu barco andou de ré, mas não foi aceito.

A estudante de engenharia naval na UFRJ Juliana Mota já perdeu a conta de quantas competições ganhou em Porto Alegre, em diversas classes. No match race é o segundo campeonato ganho no Veleiros do Sul pela timoneira que agora se tornou bicampeã sul-americana. De acordo com ela, foi uma grande preparação para o brasileiro, em dezembro em Brasília, que conta como seletiva para a Equipe Olímpica Brasileira.
"Foi uma disputa muito legal. Mesmo não tendo vindo gente de fora foi importante pra medir o nível dos concorrentes que também vamos encontrar no brasileiro. Aqui valeu o esforço da nossa equipe e quero agradecer muito a elas", diz Juliana se referindo às outras integrantes da equipe Feroz, Amanda e Georgia Rodrigues, Larissa Juk e Ana Barbachan, que substituiu Larissa após ter se lesionado.

No confronto pelo terceiro lugar da divisão feminina, Renata Decnop venceu Marina Jardim (RS) por 2 a 1. O Sul-Americano iniciou na sexta-feira e contou com o patrocínio da Transpetro.

Giga Race Team, formed by Henrique and Felipe Haddad, Pedro Caldas and Mário Trindade, left Porto Alegre without losing any of the 16 matches they have played in this competition and Haddad also took the title two times champion of South America. As he says the latest results gave him "more confidence" after a bad period.

"In early November we were runners-up in the Mumbai International Match Race in India. Played 37 matches in 15 days and winning 30. Now 16 more have been; it gives us more peace of mind. My brother joined the team and we are in a phase of renewal, with many projects. The South American was excellent for all competitors."

Haddad’s crew is part of the framework of the Brazilian Navy and the main objective for 2011 of them are the World Military Games in July in Rio de Janeiro.
