ISAF Nations Cup Regional Final - Europe II - Preview


Thursday will be the first day of the ISAF Nations Cup Regional Final (Europe II) in Gdynia, Poland.

ISAF Nations Cup is an international event to find the best nation in match racing around the world and to promote match racing format. ISAF Nations Cup consists of 7 Regional Finals, taking place from March to July 2011. Regional Finals winners will participate in the Grand Final of ISAF Nations Cup, which will take place 13-18 September in Sheboygan, USA.

Regional Finals will be sailed in South Africa, Austria, Bahrain, Poland, USA, Australia and Brazil. Winners go to Grand Final, which will be sailed with the defending champions France and hosts: the United States. The fight for ISAF Nations Cup 2011 title will take place in open category and women category.

Regional final in Gdynia will be sailed in two categories - Open and Women. In the Open category stronger entries includes Denmark (Peter Wibro - former European Champion, no 17 in the World Ranking) and Poland (Przemyslaw Tarnacki - Polish Champion, no 31 in the World Ranking). Fight for top places will be definitely divided moreover between representation of Russia (Eugenyi Nikiforov), Estonia (Mati Sepp), Germany (Mitja Meyer), UK (Andy Shaw) and Netherlands (Jurjen Feitsma). All these crews are classified between 50 and 100 place in the World Ranking which indicates high level of theirs experience. Certainly additional advantage of Poles and Danes is good knowledge about yachts - Diamant 3000 (Wibro won European Championship on those boats).

In Women category the highest ranked team is the Danish skipper Camilla Ulrikkeholm. Some people say that Polish team (Kasia Pic) and Swedish team (Caroline Sylvan) will be also fighting for place in finals. For the local Polish crew advantage is good knowledge of yachts - Skippi 650 - will it be helpful?

Organizers - Polish Match Tour, PYA and Gdynia Sailing Days invite all spectators. Racing will take place just next to the city boulevard and each race will have live commentt for the audience. On Thursday and Friday we will have Round Robin (Qualification phase). On Saturday semifinals and finals will be sailed. Beginning of regatta on Thursday, July 21.
