Lysekil Women’s Match - Day Three
Six crews through to quarterfinals in Lysekil Women’s Match

An international mix of six crews made it to the quarterfinals of Lysekil Women’s Match. Camilla Ulrikkeholm and Trine Andersen from Denmark, local sailor Karin Hagström, Australian skipper Nicky Souter, Stephanie Roble from USA and Spanish Silvia Roca Mata are all ready for another thrilling round-robin during Friday.

– It was quite a nerve-wrecking day, since we knew we had to win all our three matches to have a chance to stay in the competition, Stephanie Roble comments.
– We made a game plan before the races, and then we had the right drive and motivation to win what we had to, she continues.
Silvia Roca Mata also won her three remaining matches of the first round-robin, and so did former world champion Nicky Souter, who finished the last match of the day with beating French Anne-Claire Le Berre in an extraordinary exciting match:
– We really felt the pressure today, but we could take the advantage of some wind shifts just before the finish line, Souter smiles.

Because of Wednesdays’ light conditions the racing in Lysekil has been delayed, and instead of the planned double round-robin the race management have decided to go directly to a quarterfinal round-robin during Friday, with the six first skippers after the first round-robin. Four crews ended on 6 – 3 in matches, and then there was a tie between the next three on 5 – 4. It took the umpires a while to sort it out, but then the 2007 and 2008 Lysekil Women’s Match champion, local sailor Linda Rahm, was excluded from further racing.
